The words “I’ll be happy when . . . ” is part of a trap, a myth. There is no perfect time to “achieve” an emotional state you seek such as joy or happiness like it rests on the top of a mountain. First, happiness or any other emotional goal, is a practice not a product. You can’t buy it or get it or own it, it’s something that is a constant work in progress like a garden. Watering, weeding, tending, in a cycle; sometimes producing and full, other times dormant and resting. Second, relying on other people or outside events to give you what you seek emotionally leaves you at the mercy of others or “luck”. Some days are very hard, some weeks, months or years might be hard. Practicing what you want (happiness, beauty, kindness, humor, whatever) a little bit each day, inside yourself and for yourself, is attainable. Searching out what you seek emotionally and acknowledging it if only for a moment, is something you can do. It could be the only sustainable and serious way to experience emotional wellness/happiness/peace/joy and more. If I’m not looking for something I won’t see it and if I don’t experience it while it’s there, well nothing is there forever. Look for it, acknowledge it, and GRAB HAPPY.
